As a debut golfer in The Open Championship, Morikawa showed an extraordinary mentality by appearing consistent from the start.

On the first day, the 24-year-old golfer scored 67 strokes or three under par. Then Morikawa's best score was achieved on the second day with 64 strokes or six under par.

Morikawa's consistency continued on the third day with a score of 68 (-2). Then the 66 strokes or four under earned in the final saw him lift the Claret Jug trophy.

For Morikawa, this is the second title in a major tournament after the 2020 PGA Championship. "This is one of the best moments of my life," Morikawa said as reported by Reuters.

Morikawa made his professional debut in 2019. Overall, he has bagged eight titles and is currently ranked fourth in the world.

"I had confidence from day one being professional. I did my homework from Monday to Wednesday to make sure I knew what I had to do," he added.

Meanwhile, former world number one golfer Jordan Spieth had to settle for runner-up after losing two strokes to Morikawa.

"I did everything I could. So I'm upset because I really feel like I played well enough to win," said Spieth.

Meanwhile, Louis Oosthuizen appeared anticlimactic in the final of The Open Championship by making a number of mistakes until the closing with a score of 71 strokes or one over par.

Whereas in the first three days of The Open Championship, the golfer from South Africa was so firmly at the top of the standings. However, poor results in the final made him have to settle for third place with a difference of four strokes from Morikawa.
