Chinese Virologist Claims Covid-19 Was Made In China

Chinese virologist Li-Meng Yan said that China had deliberately created the Covid-19 coronavirus which caused mass social distancing and deaths around the world. This was conveyed in the Fox News Tucker Carlson program on Tuesday, September 15, 2020.

Carlson specifically asked Li-Meng Yan if he believed the Chinese Communist Party released the virus on purpose. He replied, "yes, of course, it was on purpose," he said, as quoted by Fox News, Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

Li-Meng Yan said that more evidence would be released, but he only cited his high position in the World Health Organization's (WHO) reference laboratory, at the University of Hong Kong, as a reason to believe his allegations. He claimed to have investigated in depth and secrets since the beginning of the outbreak.

In addition, he also explained that he has his own network of units in China, is involved with hospitals, and works closely with the world's top coronavirus specialist virologists. "So, along with my experience, I can tell you, it's made in a lab, and it's also spread around the world to do mischief," the bespectacled woman said.

However, Li-Meng Yan's comments contradict the opinion of the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci, who previously cast doubt on the idea that the virus was artificially created.

In May 2020, he told National Geographic, that if anyone looks at the evolution of viruses in bats, and what's out there right now, it's very skewed toward that viruses couldn't have been artificially or intentionally manipulated.

"The way the mutation has evolved naturally," said Fauci, who is also the White House coronavirus adviser.

Other scientists have also criticized the idea that Covid-19 served as a kind of biological weapon or was released by a laboratory.

Fox News previously reported on Li-Meng Yan last July, when he leaked alleged Chinese efforts to suppress information about its handling of the virus.

With an extensive network of contacts in Chinese medical facilities, Li-Meng Yan is trying to gather more information about the virus as China blocks overseas experts from conducting research in the country.

His revelations sparked ongoing complaints that the Chinese government failed to inform the world early on about the threat of the virus. In particular, he believes the Chinese government is ignoring research that could save lives. When asked for comment by Fox News on the matter, the State Department did not immediately respond.

The University of Hong Kong refuted Li-Meng Yan's claim by confirming that the news report did not match the key facts they understood. Also note that Li-Meng Yan has not conducted any research on the topic on campus from December 2019 to January 2020.

"We further observed that what he may have emphasized in the reported interviews has no scientific basis but resembles hearsay," the University of Hong Kong said.

Li-Meng Yan, who says he was one of the first scientists in the world to study the coronavirus, has left China and says he is afraid of the Chinese government. He was allegedly asked by his superior at the WHO reference laboratory, Leo Poon, in December 2019 to investigate a strange cluster of SARS-like cases coming out of mainland China.
