Indonesia's First Gold, Women's Doubles Badminton wins Tokyo Olympics

Tokyo - Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu managed to present a gold medal for Indonesia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after defeating Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yifan (China) in the final.

Playing at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Monday (2/8/2021), Greysia-Apriyani won with a score of 21-19 in the first set and the second game 21-15.

 Greysia/Apriyani started the first game well leading 7-4, 8-5.  But Chen/Jia thinned the situation to 8-10.  But Greysia/Apriyani, who beat South Korea's doubles, Lee So Hee/Shin Seun Chang in the semifinals, won again 11-8.

 After the interval, Chen/Jia got up and managed to equalize to 11-11.  But Greysia/Apriyani returned 15-12 away after Jia smashed out on the left.

 Greysia/Apriyani closed the first set with a score of 21-19 after Chen's poke stretched back.

 Greysia/Apriyani started the second game well, leading 3-1 after Apriyani smashed through China's double defense.

 Chen/Jia, who are seeded in second, trailed 2-6 after Apriyani's cross returned to an empty place.

 Greysia/Apriyani continued to lead 11-7 after Apriyani's hard smash smashed Chen Qing Chen's defense.

 Indonesia's doubles continued to lead to a distance of six points 15-9 after Chen's return ball went out.

 Indonesia finally won the gold medal after Greysia/Apriyani defeated Chen/Jia in the second set with a score of 21-15.
